About Us

Congregation Ahavas Achim (CAA) is a warm and welcoming synagogue affiliated with Reconstructing Judaism. We are a diverse group with varying backgrounds and interests. Our worship services and educational programs provide spiritual sustenance and connection with Jewish tradition. Our members come from several counties in New Hampshire as well as Vermont. Wherever you are from and whatever your Jewish background or practice, you’ll find a warm welcome at CAA!

Our beautiful building at 84 Hastings Avenue in Keene was constructed in 1973. The sanctuary, built of red oak and designed to resemble a tent, has an ambience that is both holy and homey. We gather there for services, learning opportunities, and communal celebrations. The excellent acoustics make our sanctuary a popular rental spot for concerts, as well.

Our classrooms and library are full of educational activities, from kindergarten to adult education for all ages. Our sanctuary and social hall are the site of joyful and moving lifecycle events, from baby namings to b’nai mitzvah to weddings. Our well-equipped kitchen allows for full meal catering.

We hold exuberant Shabbat services every week and celebrate Jewish holidays throughout the year, from the solemnity of Yom Kippur and Tisha B’Av to the wild joy of Purim and Pesach. Newcomers are always welcome.

We are a fully egalitarian congregation - women and men participate equally in all aspects of synagogue life. Our building is fully wheelchair accessible and we provide listening devices for the hearing impaired, large print versions of our siddur (prayer book), and gender neutral restrooms. We welcome all Jews, their families, and interested people to join our community in celebrating and learning Jewish tradition. Join us for communal worship services, incorporating prayer, song, and meditation.
