9:00am [9:00am] Cathedral of the Pines: Shabbat Service, Lunch, Hiking
Description:
Please join us for a Shabbat morning service in the natural splendor of Cathedral of the Pines in Rindge, NH. Weather permitting, we’ll sing and pray with an expansive view of Mt. Monadnock in the background. We’ll read from a unique Torah scroll donated by Barbara Green’s family. Please plan on being part of this special service. CAA will be providing a picnic lunch after services. We would like to offer you the opportunity to linger on the Cathedral of the Pines campus and more fully explore its beauty. After lunch, some of us will explore the Cathedral’s trail systems. Maps of the Eastern Trail System (1.5 mile hike) and the Western Trail System (3.5 mile hike) will be available. For lunch, please RSVP and indicate any dietary restrictions to Daniella: secretary.ahavas.achim@gmail.com

7:00pm [7:00pm] CAA Movie Night- The Physician
Description:
This 2013 film about medieval medicine plunges us into a time when medicine consisted more of superstition and misinformation than actual healing. Eleventh century Englishman Rob Cole (played by Tom Payne of The Walking Dead) wants to be a physician. He travels to Persia to study under the great polymath Ibn Sina, author of the Book of Healing (played by the amazing Ben Kingsley). Ibn Sina’s school is only open to Muslims and Jews, not Christians, so Rob changes his name and passes himself off as a Jew. This compelling film, based on the novel by the same name by Noah Gordon, depicts medicine as a war against ignorance, and Rob and his mentor as warriors trying to save as many lives as possible. Saturday Night at the Movies is free to CAA members. We ask that non-members contribute $5 per person to defray the cost of refreshments and movie rental.
